Clontibret Camogie News
August 25, 2010
'... and they lived happily ever-after!!' Well, ok that's not really what happened last Sunday, but for Monaghan the Gala All-Ireland Junior Camogie Championship final replay did have a fairytale ending with the team securing their first significant All-Ireland title ever, following a one point win over Cavan.
Congratulations to all the team, but especially to the Clontibret girls who, in a rare gesture, supported the county team 100% from the start of the year, and, despite making numerous sacrifices regarding training and matches, never once questioned the wisdom of that decision. Certainly on Sunday they got their just reward.
Congratulations to Paul Ward who, as team trainer, had an onerous task but one in which he showed his true (Antrim!) pedigree. Eileen McElroy, team captain, deservedly was selected 'Player of the Match' so it was a great day to wear the Monaghan jersey.
Once again a large contingent of supporters travelled from Clontibret and we are most grateful for that support which proved vital at times during the game.
For Nicola Morgan the week was even more memorable as she gained excellent Leaving Cert. results. Every good wish, Nicola, in whatever career path you now choose.
It's back to the championship again this evening (Thurs) as Clontibret take on Inniskeen, while on Sunday we play Truagh. Venues not confirmed at time of going to press.
Our Under-14 county panel are in action for the last time on Saturday, Sept. 4th against Cavan. Please ensure there is a full attendance at the last few training sessions in Cloghan.
Finally, best wishes to all those starting second level school or heading off to college for the first time. Check out the camogie scene and you will soon make lots of new friends!
