Halifax GaelicPerformance Ambassadors put future stars through their paces at Monaghan Camp Halifax GaelicPerformance ambassadors Peter Canavan and Marty McGrath were at St. Macartan's College in Monaghan coaching GAA stars of the future at the final Halifax GaelicPerformance Camp of the summer. Despite being in the throes of preparation for Fermanagh's Championship decider against Wicklow tomorrow night, McGrath teamed up with the former All-Ireland winning captain to give advice and share expertise in coaching and Q&A sessions with the children at the camp. The Halifax GaelicPerformance Camps, Ireland's foremost Gaelic Games coaching programme, were expanded this year to include hurling and were also brought to venues outside Dublin and Meath for the first time. The camps have been developed over a number of years by Monaghan footballer Dermot McArdle. The only programme aimed at 12-16 year old males and females, the camps were established as a set of exciting and interactive modules taking the best practices from top inter-county players and teams across the country. Dermot's motto is "Advancing Gaelic Games through Innovation" and the camps teach children how to apply key skills, but at a level that they can understand. "We are delighted to be supporting the Halifax GaelicPerformance Camps once again and its great to see last year's success being built on with hurling now included in the coaching programme," said Niall Malone, Halifax Branch Manager, Monaghan. "The players, regardless of age, level or ability are what drive our national games and Halifax is keenly aware of this. We aim to support them in any way we can and at all stages of their careers. We are delighted in this case to be able to give our support to Dermot McArdle and at the same time to the players of the future." GaelicPerformance founder and Monaghan footballer Dermot McArdle said, "We're really pleased that the Camps have expanded to include hurling this year and that we're catering for more young players through the extra venues. "It's great to have the likes of Marty McGrath and Peter Canavan involved, the players at the camps really respect the advice they get from these stars and their association with the camps strengthens the ability of GaelicPerformance to transmit a high quality coaching programme. Halifax have been very supportive and proactive sponsors, allowing me to expand and improve the camps and I'd like to thank them for all their support." The Halifax GaelicPerformance Camps are Ireland's only hurling and football camps for 12-16 year old boys and girls and all the coaches are fully qualified, inter-county players.
