Buachaint Faoi 14 sa Cluiche Ceannais/U-14's Win Final
The U-14 team collected the second juvenile cup of the year when they overcame a determined Oram team who put up a great fight throughout this evenly matched contest played in glorious conditions in the redeveloped grounds of Rockcorry.
It was only in the last 15 minutes that our lads pulled away with a few goals. Up until that point Oram were right in it and infect went a point ahead 10 minutes into the second half. Only for the Trojan work of our back line of Martin Mc Phillips & Christopher Mc Guirk they would have been further ahead. , Killeevan started the game well with Travis Mc Cann putting us 2 points ahead in the opening few minutes. Oram replied with 2 points but they were cancelled out with 2 more from team captain Travis. A well worked goal which saw our full forwards Adam Langan setting up Mark Quigley who made no mistake in hitting the net to leave the score at
1-4 to 0-3 mid way through the half.
Orams response was immediate with a goal and a point to level up the match. Killeevan finished strong with surging runs from our half backs Ryan Tierney and Stephen Mc Kenna causing the opposition all kind of problems. 3 late points, 2 from sharpshooter Travis and one from John Mc Guirk left us leading by 3 points at the break. Oram came out in the second have with a greater urgency and within ten minutes were a point ahead with a goal and a point. Points were traded with John Mc Guirk converting a free for the Sarsfields. Then came the turning point when second half super sub Dion Conlon latched onto a great pass from the classy Jamie Reavey to shoot low to the net giving Darren Kavanagh no chance in the Oram goal. At the other end a great save from na Sairsealaigh net minder Maitiú Mac Uaid kept us in front. At this stage our midfield pairing of John Mc Guirk and James Mc Cudden were winning the lion share of possession from kickouts and in the 19th minute the pressure paid of when Dion Conlon turned provider setting up John Mc Guirk for two more goals in as many minutes. A goal from Oram was cancelled out by the hatrick man John Mc Guirk who caught a long ball from Dion and turned and shot to the net to leave us running out comfortable winners at the finish.
Congratulations to the team, subs and team mentors, Casement, Gavin & Minor and everyone else involved in the running of the juvenile teams.
