Cill Laobháin / Killeevan Club Notes - 25/06/09 Buachaint Faoi 12 sa Cluiche Ceannais/U-12's Win Final U-12's Win Final Pride of place this week goes to our young U-12 team who collected the first silver wear of 2009 for the club, when they overcome a very resolute Rockcorry side in the Div 3 shield final last Saturday in Emmet park aghabog in windy conditions. Killeevan started well with a strong wind at our backs and opened a 6 point lead with points from team captain Lee O Reilly (2), Stephen Mc Kenna (3) & Cillian Mooney (1) before Rock got of the mark with 2 points in succession from Aaron Mc Gorman and Killian Thornton. The sarsfields finished the half strongest with 2 goals from Michael Smith and Micheal Mc Cann and a point from the classy Stephen Mc Kenna. In the second half Rockorry emerged with a new lease of life and with the strong wind behind were piling on the pressure. With Arron Mc Gorman moved to full forward the tactic was to launch the high ball into their target man. But fair play to the Killeevan defense who stood strong as a unit with Dylan Thompson competing well with the rockorry danger man to deny any real penetration on the killeevan goal. Rock did get the first three points of the half from sharp shooter Aaron Mc Gorman. But then came a five minute spell when Killeevan put the result out beyond any doubt with 2 goals in side a few minutes , the first from Stephen mc kenna following good work from Michael mc cann, and the second from Cillian Mooney. A point from the hard working Garreth Smyth for Rockorry was followed by Points from play from Michael Smith and Michael Mc Cann. A well engineered goal in the 16th minute saw Killeevans target man Michael Smith catch a long ball and flick it over his head to the on running Micheal mc cann who shot to the net. Points from Dylan Quigley, Stephen Mc Kenna, and second half sub Jordan Conlon left us running out comfortable winners at the finish. This was a great achievement for these young players and a fitting reward for the effort and commitment they have given over the last number of years. In goal Mathew Mc Quaid was outstanding. The Defensive line of Daniel.Tompson, Niall Hurson, Edward Mc Ginn and Lorcan Kilpatrick played well as a unit to ensure Rockcorry were kept goalless In midfield Cillian.Mooney and Stephen Mc Kenna worked tirelessly both taking some terrific scores Forwards Dylan Quigley Lee O Reilly (Capt). Michael.Smith and Micheal Mc Cann stretched the Rockcorry defense all getting on the score sheet numerous times. As the game wore on killeevan introduced several subs Jamie.Scott, Jordan Conlon, Kieran.Smith, Fergal Mc Guirk, Owen Reevey,Ryan Hunt,Kieran Mc Ginn, and Adam Quigley it was great to see all these young players playing there part in a fine victory. Well done to the team management and to all the juvenile coaches in the club who have brought these young lads through the various juvenile coaching grades over the years. Our last success at U-12 level was back in 1986 when present club chairman Darren was the last captain to lift an U-12 cup. A special word of thanks to Brian Conlon who commentated on the match dvd which will be on sale in the next few weeks. Comhghairdeas d'achan duine.
