Castlecool Ltd - a true supporter of Monaghan GAA

December 31, 2008
Castlecool Ltd has been one of Monaghan GAA's most generous supporters down the years, being the current Reserve Football League Division 1 sponsor. Celebrating 15 years in business this year, the Castleblayney-headquartered warehousing and logistics company is headed up by local man Paul Shortt. Castlecool Ltd underlined its support for Monaghan GAA this year by once again agreeing to sponsor the Reserve Football League Division 1. It was the warehousing and logistics specialist's fourth year to sponsor this competition, having sponsored the under 16 football leagues for four years prior to that. This year saw Clontibret crowned Reserve League (O'Duffy Cup) champions for a fifth consecutive year following a 0-11 to 0-9 victory over Paul Shortt's local club Castleblayney Faughs in the final on November 1. "As someone who was born and bred in Castleblayney, I'm acutely aware of how much the GAA means to people in the town and throughout the rest of the county. The GAA is the heart and soul of the community and I'm delighted to be able to help out from a sponsorship point of view," Paul says. Although much of his spare time is taken up with Concra Wood Golf and Country Club, which he has been chairman of since 2002, Paul still finds time to follow the Monaghan football team and has been impressed by their progress over the past few years. "They've come on in leaps and bounds under Seamus McEnaney and with a bit of luck would have beaten Kerry in each of the last two years. I thought they were extremely unlucky last year when Kerry beat them by a point. If they had got over them, they could have gone on to win the All-Ireland." This is an exciting time for Castleblayney Golf Club which has just developed an 18 hole championship Golf and Country Club at Concra Wood, Castleblayney. Situated across Lough Muckno from the existing 9 hole course, Concra Wood Golf and Country Club opened to members last July and will open to the public for green fees in April 2009. The new course has been designed by legendary golfers Christy O'Connor Snr and Christy O'Connor Jnr who believe it has the potential to become one of Ireland and Europe's top golf courses. According to the Concra Wood Golf and Country Club website: "Lough Muckno and the golf course are gloriously entwined. Eleven holes lure you to the water's edge, promising danger and excitement time and again. It makes Concra Wood a stern and beautiful test of golf, whatever your ability." Castlecool Ltd has been a huge success for Paul since he opened for business 15 years ago. Specialising in the field of temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics, the company now has facilities in Castleblayney, Lough Egish and Dundalk, and employs 70 staff. It is recognised as the largest food logistics company in Ireland, distributing throughout the entire island and the UK. The service provided by Castlecool is such that its client list reads like a Who's Who of the food industry - Heinz, Manor Farm Chickens, Lakeland Dairies, Glanbia, Silverhill etc. Deploying a fresh approach to warehousing and distribution, the company provides its wide range of customers with a complete and reliable service. It has gained a reputation for reliability and expertise in the field of temperature controlled warehousing and logistics by offering the following: cold storage capacity of 7 million cu ft; fully mobile racked; blast freezing; packing; chilled and dry stores; distribution facilities. The company has full EU certification and is ISO 9001-2000 approved. A major force in the food supply chain, Castlecool's three facilities are strategically located between Dublin and Belfast and within easy reach of the major routes and ports. The purchase of its impressive Lough Egish facility, which is situated beside Aughnamullen GAA club, from Molloy & Sherry in October 2006 has enabled Castlecool to expand its operations and offer a further range of facilities to its customers. Speaking at the time of the purchase, Paul Shortt said: "This acquisition reflects the progress of Castlecool and now establishes the company as the major provider of temperature controlled warehousing facilities in the northern part of Ireland. "The Food Park will be an integral part of the company's strategy to provide processing facilities to its customers on top of logistical services already in place." Castlecool offers a comprehensive range of services across a wide variety of food types from ready meals to bulk products, chilled stores, dry stores, blast freezers, tempering rooms, packing facilities, order picking, bulk freezing, preparation, grading, repacking, local and international distribution facilities, sampling and food testing, logistical management services and food brokerage. The company has invested heavily in a highly-efficient computer-controlled system that ensures accurate monitoring and traceability of products. A virtually paperless system controls the movement of stock through the stores. Castelcool is big enough to cope with the requirements of large, demanding customers and flexible enough to deal with the needs of smaller customers. Through the use of modern blast freezing facilities and mobile racking systems, maximum use is made of storage space, while an efficient and fully-trained workforce provides the flexibility and high standard of service demanded by customers. As a young innovative company with well-established management and operational experience, Castlecool knows exactly how to achieve maximum levels of customer satisfaction. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and customers can rest assured that their product is secure and treated with the highest level of care. Castlecool can process any customer requirement from a single box order to a 20,000 box per month contract.
