Cortown’s failure to put scores on the scoreboard surfaced once again when the fell to a one point defeat to St Colmcille in this Intermediate Championship game played in Seneschalstown on Sunday.

Cortown were 1-2 to one point in front after 10 minutes but failed to score again in the first half, while St Colmcille’s added five points to their tally. Scores were at a premium in the second half with each team securing only four points. Cortown pressed hard and spent long spells in the Colmcilles territory for the second half but the seasiders mounted a strong rearguard action and managed to hold out for the one point win. The game ended in a welter of excitement with Colmcilles conceding a desperation 50 which was fielded by their full back in the final play of the game.

Best for Cortown were John McFadden, Paddy Kerrigan, John Casserly, Colm Kerrigan and Gary Coyne.

Junior ’B’ Championship.

Trim 5-7
Cortown 0-9

Cortown were deservedly on level terms with Trim at half time of this Junior ’B’ Champiponship game played in Dunderry on Saturday evening. However Cortown fell away completely in the second half and Trim ran out deserving winners. The town side had a physically big centre line to their team which Cortown could not deal with and this eventually was the biggest factor in their win.

Best for Cortown were Mervyn O’Brien, Brian Casserly, Declan Clarke, Andrew O’Brien, and James Matthews.
