Late scores beat Na Fianna

25 April 2008
The concession of 1-1 in the closing minutes cost Na Fianna dearly as they lost out to Nobber in the opening round of the IFC.

Nobber 1-10
Na Fianna 0-10

The Na Fianna Intermediate Football were left stunned after losing this closely fought first round Intermediate Football Game played in Bohermeen on Thursday. Having being in the lead up to the 58th minute, a defensive lapse allowed Nobber in for a well taken goal to go into a two point lead. The winners added a further point in injury time and there was no way back for the Na Fianna lads.

The game opened brightly with an early pointed free from Na Fianna’s full forward Jamie Queeney. This was cancelled out by a similar score from Nobber’s Brian Farrell in the 4th minute. Great work from Na Fianna half forward Diarmuid Bailey and veteran Jason Henrick kept Na Fianna on top. Further points from Queeney (2), Sean Griffin, John O Lone and John Farrell (1 pt apiece) left Na Fianna ahead at the interval with the scoreline of 0-6 to 0-5.

Things looked good for Na Fianna in the second period and aided with the wind they moved further ahead with points from Queeney. However Nobber rallied and further points saw them just one point in arrears by the 28th minute. The Nobber goal took the wind out of the Na Fianna sails and they wee left to rue what might have been.
