Tones full back Ciaran McLoughlin.
Wolfe Tones bowed out of the SFC and surrendered their hold on the Keegan cup when going down to Skryne who topped the group thanks to their win. Wolfe Tones 0-09 Skryne 1-8 David O'Neill put Tones on their way on but the lively Skryne forwards were putting it up to the Tones defence and they were ahead 0-2 to 0-1 after 6 minutes. Ward pointed from a free before Skryne replied and then it was all Tones as Ward added a superb point and followed it up with three more points from frees, one from long range to send the holders in 0-6 to 0-3 up at the interval. Skryne came out fired up and within a minute of the restart pointed with the goal at their mercy. It wasn't long though before the decisive score of the match arrived when the Skryne forwards caught the Tones defence napping and despite the Tones defence half smothering the shot the ball finished in the bottom corner of the net. The Tara men followed this up with a free before Tiernan replied for Tones and then Ward levelled on 44 minutes. In a tense finale Skryne converted two frees in the last five minutes but Tones didn't give up and Ward played in Fox who pointed as the match headed into the first of five minutes of injury time. Tones piled on the pressure in search of the equaliser which would have put them through but Skryne broke down a Tones attack and pointed to secure the win. In what was an overall poor display from the champions it was the McLoughlin brothers who stood out with Joey McKeown also putting in a good performance. Wolfe Tones - David Nolan; Richie Brady, C.
