Brian Byrne's goal at the start of the second half was decisive as Skryne continued their good start to the season with a first round championship win over Kilmainhamwood. Skryne 1-12 Kilmainhamwood 0-7 Skryne opened the scoring in their first senior championship match this year with a point fisted over the bar by David Lynch and the Tara men didn't fall behind for the rest of the game. Felim O'Rourke notched up another three points, one from play and two frees, before the rest of Skryne's forwards managed to score from play including substitute Jamie Jordan, who scored a point after being on the pitch only a minute. Skryne led by three points at half-time, 0-9 to 0-6, and dominated the second half. Kilmainhamwood only managed to score one point after the interval. Brian Byrne scored Skryne's goal after 37 minutes of play and Aidan Tuite had a shot on goal blocked three minutes later after an notable run through the Kilmainhamwood defence. Brian Smith and mid-fielder Kevin Mulvany finished off the scoring for Skryne with a point apiece, bringing the impressive tally of scorers to nine. Best for Skryne on the day were Goalkeeper Patrick O'Rourke, Vinny O'Reilly, Trevor Giles, Mick O'Dowd and Feilm O'Rourke. Junior lose to Slane Skryne 1-9 Slane 2-7 Skryne went in at half time only a goal down after three Allan Carty points, two from play and one free and two points from play from David Ryan. Skryne made a comeback in the last 15mins of play, after going seven points down, Slane having scored a goal after five minutes of play in the second half. Cyril Carty scored a goal and a point and also two frees scored by Allan Carty, but Slane, who hadn't scored since the 9th minute of the second half, managed to hang on to their lead and win by the narrowest of margins. David Ryan, James Hegarty and Mark Jordan were the best for Skryne.
