Dunshaughlin dented by Dunderry
March 26, 2007
A fortuitous goal was the difference between Dunshaughlin and Dunderry at the end of a keenly contested B League Division 2 tie.
Dunshaughlin 0-09
Dunderry 1-09
Dunshaughlin got off to the best possible start with two early points from Declan O'Dwyer, the second a converted long range left footed free. Dunderry replied with two points of their own before Michael Johnson put the home side back into the lead. But on Dunderry's next attack a long range kick found it way into the Dunshaughlin net to put the visitors up by two. Ciaran Hoary was in fine form and he added his first of the afternoon to reduce Dunderry's lead to the minimum, but Dunderry finished the first half strongly to add three further points to give them a four point cushion at the break, 0-04 to 1-05 in favour of the visitors.
Dunshaughlin set about reducing the deficit right from the start of the second half and points from Michael Johnson (2) and Declan O'Dwyer left the minimum between the sides again going into the final quarter. But another period of pressure from Dunderry saw them score 3 points with reply to restore their four point lead again as the game entered the last five minutes. But Dunshaughlin upped the tempo as they went in search of a draw at the least, and another point from Ciaran Hoary and one from substitute David McCormack left Dunderry only two points ahead. But it was all in vain as the clock was against Dunshaughlin and after Dunderry scored the final point, the game came to a close.
A valiant effort from Dunshaughlin in which the best performances came from Ulick McDonnell, Kevin Ward, Anthony Johnson, Alan McLoughlin and Ciaran Hoary.

John McKenna opened the second half scoring with a point before Bective had their purple patch scoring a goal and two points without reply to leave them four points up heading into the final quarter. But it was Dessie Keane who turned the game in the final quarter by scoring a goal and two points, the latter point with the last kick of the game to steal a victory for men from Dunshaughlin.
