September 25, 2006
Stephen Bray scored 1-5 as O'Mahonys outscored Trim in this Commons Hardware SFC quarter-final clash at Pairc Tailteann on Sunday and set up a semi-final meeting with Blackhall Gaels. O'Mahonys 1-13 Trim 0-10 However victory came at price for the Brews Hill outfit who lost both their midfielders, Kevin Reilly and Neville Dunne, through injury and the pair face an uphill battle to be ready for the semi-final. Reilly departed after 11 minutes with an ankle injury while Dunne suffered a suspected broken finger shortly after half time. Meanwhile, Mark Ward - sent off in the recent group game against Blackhall Gaels - will miss this forthcoming clash through suspension. On the plus side seven different players - five forwards and substitutes Shane Crosby and David Murtagh - got off the mark for the winners. In addition the deployment of Shane McKeigue as an additional midfielder worked a treat as he won an ammount of possession and had a hand in the only goal which made it 1-7 to 0-4 two minutes into the second-half. A punched point from Darren Fay and a Paul Gilsenan free gave Trim an early advantage but O'Mahonys were back on level terms through Paddy Smyth (free) and David Bray, before Kevin Reilly departed. His replacement Shane Crosby made it 0-3 each within seconds of his arrival and O'Mahonys hit the front for the first time when Smyth landed a fine effort in the 19^th minute. Brendan Murphy kept Trim in contention when saving well from Stephen Bray and then prevented the subsequent '45' from going over the bar. A fine score from Trim's Derek Donohoe left his side trailing by 0-4 to 0-7 at the break. The margin was doubled with Bray's goal but Trim got the margin down to three points on two occasions before a four points burst booked O'Mahonys return ticket to the semi-final.
