U16's too strong for Westmeath

July 04, 2005
Meath ran out convincing winners over Westmeath in their opening match of this year's Gerry Reilly FT played in Oldcastle on Sunday evening. Meath 0-15 Westmeath 0-9 Luckily the rain had stopped before the start, but still conditions were not easy for either side. It was Meath who settled into the game much quicker, after two Graham Reilly points had been matched by Westmeath's Mark Flanagan and James Durkan. From then, Meath scored six unanswered points (Barry Curran, John Broderick, Bobby Lyons, Aaoran Newman, Shane Tolan and Brian Minnock), before Westmeath reduced the gap to 4 points at the break. H/T: Meath 0-8 Westmeath 0-4 Graham Reilly, recipient of the 'Man of the match' award added a further 2 points to Meath's tally with Westmeath matching them (included a terrific point from their No. 12 Conor Lynam). Another Graham Reilly put Meath up by 5 points, but then Westmeath then had their best period to just leave 2 points between the sides at 0-11 to 0-9. Meath then took control again with points from Aaoran Newman (f), Barry Curran, Graham Reilly and Gavin Coyle to earn a deserved victory.
