Ginnity saves Minors against Louth
March 21, 2005
Ulster Minor Football League 2005 Rd 1
Meath 1-6
Louth 0-9
(Saturday, 19 March, At Castletown)
Louth's injury time point gave them a deserved draw and indeed they could have claimed victory, were it not for two great saves in the closing minutes by Meath 'keeper Jonathan Ginnity. Meath started strongly with a Willie Milner goal and a point by Ciaran Kelly (f), but then Louth got two unanswered points to close the gap. Meath had loads of possession in the first half, but failed to take advantage of this with poor finishing. A Willie Milner point followed by a fisted point by Shane O'Rourke stretched Meath's lead again, but a point by Louth closed the gap before the half.
H/T: Meath 1-3 Louth 0-3
Meath were penalised by Louth's ability to convert 3 long range frees early in the second half, which had brought them back to level terms at 1-4 to 0-7. Pauric Howard put Meath ahead again, only to be matched by Louth. Sustained pressure by Louth, who were moving the ball much better, saw Jonathan Ginnity make great saves. Substitute, Alan Nestor put Meath ahead and it looked as if Meath would clinch victory, but Louth were not to be denied when they got the equalising point in injury time.
