U21 A: Rowe fires Killary into semi final

October 16, 2017

Killary Emmets' Daire Rowe in action for Syddan.

Killary Emmets 1-21(24) Na Fianna 3-13 (22)

DAIRE ROWE hit 13 points as Killary recovered from a sluggish start to advance in the U-21 A Championship at Sean Newman Park on Sunday.

Na Fianna started with four quick-fire points before Paul Bellew opened the Killary account. The Castletown/Syddan combination side then found the net following a powerfully struck effort from Pauric Dillon and from there to the final whistle there was little to separate the sides.

The Enfield/Baconstown outfit responded to that Dillon score with a goal of their own and with Ethan Devine in excellent form they regained a four point advantage.

However with Rowe, Mark Kelly and Michael Fedigan scoring points Killary closed the gap and were level following William Bellew's 26 minute score. Rowe then edged his side ahead for the first time before Na Fianna struck for a second goal which boosted them to a 2-8 to 1-10 interval lead.

Rowe had the side's level on 38 minutes and he then pointed them ahead from two frees. Killary never relinquished the lead after that and went five points clear at one stage.

A third Na Fianna goal closed the deficit and the lead was down to the minimum following a Devine point on 59 minutes.

It was left to Rowe to clinch the win with the insurance point from a '45 in added time.

Killary now play the winners of Gaeil Colmcille and Oldcastle in the semi-final.
