JFC A: Gaels no match for Summerhill at blustery Skryne

Summerhill's Liam Shaw in action for the Meath minor footballers

Summerhill got off to a winning start in the Teach Na Teamhrach -Tara House JF'A'C when beating Simonstown Gaels in Skryne on Monday night in a very competitive game. 

Simonstown got off to the better start when getting a goal in the first few minutes followed by a point. Summerhill responded with two points before Simonstown got a second goal midway through the half. The 'Hill' responded with a goal from Diarmaid McCabe and points from Eamon Ryan, Conor Lyons, Conor Frayne and Donal Feeley, to leave them going in at the break two points to the good 1-8 to 2-3.

The second half started off similar to the first with Simonstown scoring 1-1 in the first four minutes but Summerhill went on a scoring spree after that putting away 4-9 in twenty five minutes.

Simonstown did get another goal but at that stage the game was won.. 

Summerhill had five debutants playing tonight Mark Gormley, Conor Frayne, Diarmaid McCabe, John Keane and Liam Shaw.

Summerhill GFC  5-17 Simonstown Gaels 4-8

This first round of the Junior A championship was played under blustery conditions in Skyrne GFC.

It was a thunderous start to the game with Simonstown's Alex Brady scoring a goal inside the opening minutes. Michael Brennan showed great vision to pick out Alex Brady from the sideline and Brady showed good composure. Summerhill quickly put their name on the scoresheet and responded well with 2 points from play. Score after a solid opening 15 minutes read Simonstown 1-2 Sumerhill 0-3. Simonstown continued their good start to the game with a good point by Shane McHugh and a netbuster from Michael Brennan. Simonstown looked well in control of the game after 23 minutes and were leading 2-3 to 0-4. Summerhill staged a great fightback which gave them great impetus going into the second half. In the remaining 6 minutes of the first half Summerhill scored 1-4 which meant they took an unlikely lead going into the second half. Score at half time read Summerhill 1-8 Simonstown 2-3.

Simonstown had a great start to the second half and in the opening 3 minutes they scored 1-1. Rory O'Connor scored a goal from Alex Brady's rebound and this meant that Simonstown were back in the ascendancy. This goal spelt the end of the Simonstown periods of dominance. Summerhill in the remaining 25 minutes showed great pace and finishing and tallied a remarkable score of 4-9 in the second half. Michael Brennan did score a very good consolation goal and showed great endeavor by encouraging his younger teammates. Summerhill dominated the second half and the full time scoreline reflected this.  Summerhill GFC  5-17 (32) Simonstown Gaels 4-8 (20)
