Kilmainham's Colm McGivern

A late goal from substitute Peter Smith gave Kilmainham a narrow victory over neighbours Drumbaragh in a very entertaining Junior D football championship clash played at Athboy on Sunday afternoon.

Kilmainham 3-8 Drumbaragh 1-13

Davy Farnan's goal on the 20th minute gave Kilmainham a 1-4 to 0-6 lead going in at the break.

The second half began with a trademark John Smith point but Colm McGivern was able to put Kilmainham back in front with 3 points in a row.

Colm Farnan extended Kilmainham's lead with a fine gaol but as the game entered injury time Kilmainham trailed 1-13 to 2-8 until Smith bundled the ball over the Drumbaragh line to snatch a morale boosting victory.

Best four the winners were Declan Nelson, Aodan Healy, Darren Morgan and Philly Mahon in the full back line. Half backs Matthew Mullen, Brian Black and Stephen Woods worked hard while forwards Colm McGivern and Colm Farnan make a significant contribution.
