Camogie Div 1: Much better from Meath

February 26, 2017

Meath's Jane Dolan

Having lost out to Limerick 0-18 to 0-7 in the opening round Meath put in a much better performance against Clare in the second round of the National Camogie League Division 1 played in very windy conditions at Kilcloon.

Meath 1-9 Clare 2-14

Meath played with the elements in the opening half and were first on the scoreboard through Jane Dolan after four minutes. The Royals were rocked soon after when the very impressive Chloe Morey scored a crucial goal for the visitors.

Meath were back in front soon after with a brace of points and when Dolan found the Banner net Meath led 1-4 to 1-1 after 21 minutes. A brace from Aoife Minogue and another Dolan point extended Meath's lead to five going in at the break 1-7 to 1-2 in front.

Clare now had the strong wind at their backs and proceeded to narrow the gap on the resumption. Morey was unerring from frees and Clare were level 1-8 each after 44 minutes. Niamh O'Dea gave Clare the lead with their second goal and Clare never looked back.

Meath struggled against the wind and their only reward in the final ten minutes was a point from Minogue.

Clare have made it two wins from their opening two rounds while Meath, competing for the first time ever in Division 1 are pointless after two outings.

Next up for the Royals is a trip to Galway who defeated Clare 1-22 to 0-7 in the opening round.
