Ratoath's Dara Kelly

Ratoath 2-10 Dunshaughlin 1-13

Ratoath and Dunshaughlin played out an exciting draw last Friday night in Ashbourne

Ratoath played against slight breeze in first half and struck early with two goals in the first five minutes from Ben McGowan and Connell Ahearne. They then tagged on a few points through Joey Wallace, Connell Ahearn & Dara Kelly to lead 2-5 to 0-3 after 20 minutes. Dunshaughlin had their main player Gallagly black-carded after 20mins but they responded well with five unanswered points before HT. HT score - 2-6 to 0-9.

Dunshaughlin picked up where they left off with a few early points either side of a Dara Kelly point and narrowed the gap to 1 point before a goal after 10mins of the 2nd half. Ratoath were further rocked by a black card to Joey Wallace half way through the 2nd half. With five mins to go they were two points down. Gavin McGowan scored a long range point to reduce the arrears to the minimum. Then Dara Kelly had to be withdrawn with suspected concussion following a long delay and Gavin McGowan scored a free with seconds remaining until the 60 minute mark. Both sides had chances to win but neither could manage it though a great save from Eoghan Doody for Ratoath denied their opponents as the game ended level.

Both teams were preparing for extra time until the lights went out and the referee decided a replay would be best.
