Dearbháil Ní Oistín receives the Meath Ladies JFC Cup from Fearghal Harney (Meath Ladies Chairman)

St. Colmcilles 1-08, Dunsany 0-10

In Sunday's Meath LGFA Coca Cola Club Championship Junior A final St Colmcilles beat Dunsany by a single point on a scoreline of 1-8 to 0-10 points in Skryne.  That was the result but not the story of the game. The large crowd saw a fiercely contested game by two teams who have never been more than 3 points apart over the last two years. The first point was scored in the 13th minute when Cilles Tara McHugh pointed from a free. 15 year old Hannah Connell then scored the next two points to get Cilles 3 points clear.  Dunsany registered their first point from a Megan Thynne free in the 19th minute and a second free in the 31st minute to give the half time score 03 to 0.2.  Both teams would have looked at their shooting at half time and applauded their back lines, there were twelve wides in the first half.

Cilles started the second half brightly with points for Niamh Doggett and Sheena Carroll to again establish a 3 point margin after two minutes.  Tara McHugh scored from a free wide on the right before Dunsany scored their first point from play in the 8th minute.  Tara McHugh again pointed a free before Dunsany replied with a quick point from play.  The game's only goal came after a strong run from Cilles captain Dearbhail Ní Oistin, feeding Hannah Connell who slipped the final ball to Sheena Carroll for the goal and a seven point lead for Cilles.  Dunsany never stopped running and replied with three points (one free) before Tara McHugh pointed from a free in the 19th minute for Cilles last score of the game.  Dunsany then applied huge pressure on Cilles defense and scored three unanswered points to close the gap to one point.  Anna Rothwell was yellow carded in the 22nd minute to leave Cilles hard-pressed for the remainder of the game.  Awarded a free in the 29th minute Dunsany opted to try for a goal into the top corner.  Ciara Kilcoyne in the Cilles goal made the save and clearance to keep Cilles ahead. Full time score St Colmcilles 1.08 - Dunsany 0.10.

Undoubtedly one of the games of the season in the Championship.  Cilles Tara McHugh was a deserved player of the match winner but both teams can look to superb performances from so many on the pitch today. The Cilles now have a fortnight to prepare for their Leinster Club Championship which begins on the weekend of the 10th September.
