April 27, 2016

Diarmuid Moriarty - St Vincents Curraha

St Vincents/Curraha 4-22 Ballivor 3-12

St Vincents/Curraha claimed the full league points on their long trip to Ballivor to maintain their unbeaten run in this year's under 16 league. This was a good competitive match with Ballivor showing great determination early on and then their hosts St Vincents/Curraha finishing the stronger.

Although Ballivor were first to score with a well-taken point, St Vincents/Curraha's response was swift with a brace of goals from the inform Jack O Connor. O Connor added two points before Ballivor register their second score. The middle period of the first half saw both teams trade scores with Jack o Connor, Leo Corry and Nigel Hand adding further points. Towards the end of the half Ballivor capitalise on some poor handling and sloppy defending by St Vincents/Curraha and punished them with three goals to push them 3-8 to 2-7 ahead at the break.

At the resumption, and directly from the throw in Ballivor cut through the centre and extended their lead with a well-taken point. However, this was as good as it got from the home side as St Vincents/Curraha attack got themselves into gear.  They chalked up a massive 3-15 in the remaining 25 minutes. The Corry brother were first off the mark with Leo adding a point then Eoghan tucked way the first of the visitors three second half goals with Adam Tuite and Conor Harford also raising green flags. Great credit must go to the Ballivor lads, as they never gave up and threaten the opposing goal on several occasions throughout the half. They were extremely unlucky with a couple efforts with one rebounding off the post and they also had a great effort saved by substitute goalkeeper Evan Connor late on. However, St Vincents/Curraha had too much firepower up front and aided with the stiff icy April breeze they added some excellent long-range points to claim the victory.

St Vincents/Curraha had excellent performers in Jack Byrne, Jack O Connor, Oisin Fay, Charlie O Brien, Diarmuid Moriarty, and Eoghan Corry.
