U16 FL Div 5: Slane dash Michaels hopes

April 27, 2016

Patrick Tobin - St Michaels

 St. Michaels 5-08, Slane 5-15

St. Michaels hopes of a second league win were dashed by visitors Slane at Carlanstown last evening.

The home side made a poor start while playing with the aid of the wind in the opening half as they failed to open their account until the sixteenth minute when Cian Sheridan took a quick free to Brian O'Reilly who returned the ball to Sheridan and he found the back of the net. Slane at this stage had 1-7 on the board and were cruising, but Sheridan's major rose the 'Michaels lads from their slumber and a minute later Josh Goslin had goal no 2 for the home side, Paddy Tobin sent over a point but Slane replied with two points on the trot to go 1-9 to 2-1 in front on 20 minutes. Josh added a further point on 21 minutes and the same player was the provider for his sides third goal as Tobin made no mistake to leave the minimum between the sides at half time, St. Michaels 3-2, Slane 1-9.

Slane opened the second half with two points in as many minutes, however Tobin registered his second major to draw level, both sides exchanged points before Tobin registered his hat-trick on 43 minutes to go four in front. Slane rallied and added 1-1 without reply, points from Goslin and Sheridan put the home side 5-6 to 2-13 in front, however 2-1 in a four minute spell for Slane put them 3 points in front while Sheridan and Brian Reilly completed the scoring for St. Michaels Slane settled the outcome adding a further 1-1 in injury time.
