U21 A FC: Another final for Curraha

November 12, 2015

Curraha's David Toner

Curraha 4-11 Moynalvey 2-09

Curraha reached the Under 21 A Final last night after beating Moynalvey in a tight affair despite the score line suggesting different.

Curraha were missing three starters from the Quarter Final in the Moriarty brothers and James McEntee but the lads that stepped in showed up very well and the whole team worked very hard to reach their second Under 21 final in three years. From the throw-in Curraha got the best start possible as Sean O'Hanrahan was put through on goal after David Toner found him in space and he coolly slotted the ball to the back of the net.

To their credit Moynalvey responded with two unanswered points but O'Hanrahan kicked a massive 45' to get Curraha back on track. However Moynalvey were winning plenty of ball in the middle and David McLoughlin was on fine form for them and he added a pointed free before the raised the green flag to go two points ahead mid-way through the half. Again it was O'Hanrahan who got Curraha back on track with a fine long range point and this was followed by a pointed free from David Toner to bring the sides level. Moynalvey failed to score then for the remainder of the half with Curraha adding 2-01. The first goal coming from the influential Evan McGovern who was unlucky not to have a second after he rattled the crossbar. Andrew Battersby added his side's third goal while Toner added his second point to give Curraha a 3-04 to 1-03 lead at the break.

It was Moynalvey who got the perfect start this time around as they raised the green flag inside three minutes but another Toner free and a great fisted point from Niall Murphy had Curraha back in control. McLoughlin and Toner traded points while Sean Keogh also added a point. Moynalvey kicked two unanswered points half way through the second half and also had a goal chance which was saved by Luke McCarthy. Toner then added another point before finding Seamus Hogan with a fisted pass who smashed the ball to the roof of the net. Another 45' from O'Hanrahan cancelled out a Moynalvey free, while McCarthy pulled a terrific double save in injury time. Toner finished the game off with his sixth point after being picked out by Andrew Coyle.

Best for Curraha were Toner, O'Hanrahan and Brian Joyce.
