Meath's Jack Byrne and Carl Nulty with the Leinster U15 Talent Academy Tournament Trophy

Meath took part in the recent Leinster GAA organised U15 Talent Academy  Football Tournament .

This tournament was organised to give the County Development teams a competitive outlet for all their coaching and training . This year the U15 Academy teams football tournament was been held in Co. Offaly at a number of different venues throughout the county.

As some counties were able to field two teams, it was decided that the overall tournament would be split into two sections ( A) &( B), with two separate finals taking place. As Meath fielded two squads at this age level the U15 panel was split into two evenly balanced squads, Meath Green and Meath Gold.

Meath Gold played out of Edenderry against Dublin and Laois and the Meath Green squad played out of Ballyfore against Dublin and Roscommon .

Apart from the two Meath squads, there were U17 other  U15 Academy teams taking part in the tournament.

The Meath Gold squad played Dublin in their first match and unfortunately after dominating the majority of the exchanges, lost out in the dying minutes of that game. Though they re-grouped to gain a victory over the Laois U15 squad the loss to Dublin prevented their progression to the knockout stages in the tournament  .

The only consolation for the Meath Gold squad on the day  was that they lost out to the Dublin team by the smallest of margins, but as all spectators there on the day will vouch the old cliché of "missed opportunities coming back to haunt you" was very adequate for  this Meath squad after the final whistle was blown.

That they came the closest on the day to defeating Dublin did not ease the player's disappointment in not progressing. The Dublin team that got the win over the Meath Gold squad went on to win the A section of the tournament.

At the Ballyfore venue  the Meath Green Squad defeated their City counterparts in a hard fought but entertaining game and  then went on to brush aside the  Roscommon challenge for the honour of playing Westmeath in the final of the B Section Tournament in Croghan.

In the final, the Meath Green squad won the game comprehensively.  After the final whistle the Meath Green Captain Eoin Martin was presented with the Leinster U15 Talent Academy Tournament Trophy.

Hopefully this will be the start of something greater for this bunch of Meath youngsters and Meath Football.
