Drumconrath's Alan Byrne shots against Clann Na nGael

Drumconrath 3-13 Dunshaughlin 0-10

A weakened and under strenght Drumconrath finished their Champion with an easy win over an also depleted Dunshaughlin side in the "dead rubber" on Sunday.

Drums missing 6 players for varying reasons gave Championship debuts to three U17's Cathal Dunne, Robert McEntaggart and Dylan Dardis and all three played really well which bodes well for the future of the Club.

Bouyed on by the recent B League win a confident Drumconrath hit the ground running with 3 Alan Byrne points inside the first 3 minutes. Things got better for the Reds as returning Captain Jamie Myles in his 1st game back from injury since May found the back of the Dunshaughlin net and further points from Byrne (2) and Stephan Crosby had Drums 1-6 to 0-0 ahead after 10 minutes and really the result was never in doubt.

Dunshuaghlin pointed soon after but 3 further Byrne points added to the tally and while Dunshaughlin got more into the game and added 3 points of their own Stephan Crosby scored a goal just on half time to give Drumconrath a 10 point half time lead 2-8 to 0-4.

Crosby added a point inside a minute of the restart and 2 more Byrne points where answered by 4 from an improving Dunshaughlin side who to their credit battled away.

Byrne capped a fine afternoon with a goal on 17 minutes as after that the Drumconrath scoring died down with the sides sharing 4 points Peter Tighe getting his 1st score in 16 years of Championship football and the inevitable Byrne brought his own personal tally to 1-8.

Good displays from John McDermott, Crosby, Byrne and the younger set of Cathal Dunne, Conor OHalloran, Robert McEntaggart, Dylan Dardis and Tomas Conlon as Drums finish off the year and as always hope springs eternal with Terry Skelly back on home soil that Drums can make further strides in 2016.
