Meath U15 Vs Louth U15 in O'Raghaillaighs Gaelic Grounds in Drogheda

Saturday 25th July at 11.30 AM

Last Saturday morning at 10.45 am the Meath U15 squad arrived in Drogheda to take on their Louth counterparts in two challenge matches. Both Counties have met over the years so the coaches from both counties knew what to expect come game time. As has become the norm with these games , the Meath U15's brought with them a large band of supporters who have watched this bunch of players progress over the years into a formidable unit , and the addition of new panellists improves and ensures  progress as the squad develops and evolves.

The games schedule got underway at 11.30 am and the intensity of the game was high with both teams defending strongly and hoping to gain the advantage in attack. In the first 10 minutes the game ebbed and flowed and some brilliant interchanges and passing movements were seen by the gathered supporters, in addition to some brilliant scores taken by both sides. And unusually by these counties standards, the level of wides in this match was quite low.

After about 15 minutes the Meath players started to get the upper hand as the intensity of the exchanges started to take its toll on the Louth players. The Meath forwards supplied and supported by the Meath midfielders strung a number of scores together and the Meath team started to move into a significant lead. The half time whistle came at just the right time for the Louth players, as they came out in the second  half  with a renewed vigor and took some brilliant scores , the competitiveness of the game continued right up the last 10 minutes, however once again the Meath players gained the upper hand with a number of majors been scored.

At the end of the match all the players and Coaches shook hands as a mark of respect for a sporting encounter with the Meath boys taken the honours.

Game 1 :    Meath  04-11  Vs  Louth  02-05

In the second match the Meath team, who came  under pressure from the throw in fell behind for a period of time as the Louth players  fought to regain some pride after the result in the first game. At half time the Meath boys had gained the advantage on the scoreboard, but this was against the run of play as the Louth players had played out of their skins to try to gain the upper hand, unfortunately unlike the first game, the accuracy was not there and performance of the Meath goalkeeper and the clinical finishing of the Meath forwards allowed Meath to take the lead.

With the resumption of the game after half time the more clinical Meath forwards started well .And to make matters worst in  the last quarter the Louth defence started to leak scores easily and the final  score line reflects this , however up to that point thegame ebbed and flowed from one end to the other. In the end the Meath boys ran out comprehensive winners, on a score line which bellied the dominance of the Louth team in the first half.

However the only negative from a positive away trip for the Meath U15 's was a severe injury that occurred to one of the Meath players in the first half of the second game after he had scored a brilliant individual goal.

This player had to be taken to the nearby Lourdes Hospital Accident & Emergency for treatment, and the latest report is that he is recovering well. Again at the end of the game, the players and coaches shook hands. And agreed that the day had been a positive outcome for all.

The Meath U15 Management team would like to thank Louth GAA and O' Raghaillaighs GFC for their hospitality and use of theirfacilities for these games.
