U16 D2 FC: Beano sends 'The Moores' packing

May 14, 2015

Trim's Brian Dowling

Trim 5-15 Ashbourne 2-7

Brian "Beano" Dowling got 3-8 from full forward as Trim booked there place in the semi finals of the U16 Division 2 Championship, with a well deserved 17 point win over Ashbourne in Lomans Park on Tuesday evening.
Trim got off to a flying start with a Jack "Cotch" Cottrell point inside two minutes with Cian Walsh adding one moments later. Ashbourne replied with a point before Beano got his first.

Walsh then nipped in for goal after a Dowling cut back before Dowling netted less than a minute later. Ashbourne replied with further points from midfielders Conor Cooley and Colm O'Toole but Dowling would notch a further 1-3 before the break, with Cotch and centre forward Gavin Griffith also grabbing points. Ashbourne did get the halfs last score, a penalty which was netted.

Trim got off to flying start in the second half with Cottrell putting in a great ball to Dowling who pointed. Moments later wing forward Luke Mahon went on a surging run through the heart of the Ashbourne defence, which resulted in a well taken point.
Dowling, Mahon and Griffith would share further points before centre back Evan Buckley sent in a brilliant ball to Dowling, who finished to the net to ensure the game. Ashbourne then notched their first score of the second half, a goal. Moments later they added a point. Trim would go on to close out the game with a Beano point and a Griffith goal.

Trim can be very happy with their performance this evening which stretches their unbeaten run to four games, and also with 5-14 out of their total coming from play. Games against Seneschalstown and O'Mahonys are to be rescheduled in the coming week. If Trim were to win both games, they would finish top of the group, a great achievement after a very poor display in Round one against Drumconrath/Meath Hill.
