AFL2: third win for Ratoath

May 14, 2015

Ratoath's Conor Rooney

Ráth Tó 2-14
St Colmcilles 0-13

Ratoath recorded their third league win on a perfect night for football in this home match played in Brownstown.

This was a match Fergal Power's charges were very much up for and they began on the front foot with points from Gareth Rooney, Bobby O'Brien and Francis Coyne before a slick one- two combination between Conor Rooney and O'Brien resulted in the latter slotting home his team's first goal. Further points from Gavin McGowan and Coyne followed though in fairness to the Laytown/ Bettystown side they kept in touch and kept the scoreboard ticking over themselves. In the 23rd minute Cian O'Brien netted the home side's second goal and with a further point from Daly left the scoreline at half time 2-8 to 0-6.

It was the turn of the Laytown men in the second half to open the scoring but this was quickly cancelled out by points from Daly and Keith McCabe. Both sides were then guilty of spurning chances with a number of wides registered until an excellent Jack McGowan point in the 46th minute gave Ratoath added momentum.Ratoath remained comfortable and though Colmcille's continued to battle they could never get close enough to put the result in doubt. The game ended on a slightly sour note with a second yellow card shown to Gareth Rooney but even with 14 men Ratoath still tagged on further points from Cian O'Brien and Coyne to eventually run out 7 point winners.Best for Ratoath were Shane Duffy,Brian O'Connor,Gavin McGowan, Emmet Boyle,Bobby O'Brien and Frank Coyne.
