O'Mahonys opened up their Junior Football Championship campaign with a solid nine point victory over Meath Hill.

O'Mahonys got the better of the opening exchanges and put 2-3 on the board in the first quarter with no response from the Meath Hill men. However, Meathhill went on to dominate the remainder of the first half and the early part of the second half.

Meath Hill responded with 3 unanswered points before the break to leave just two kicks of the ball between the sides at half time.

Meath Hill started off the second half the stronger but O'Mahonys re-grouped and kept their own for the remainder of the game to come out nine-point victors. A clean sheet from David Quirke, solid defending from Damien Moran and Sean Keating's goals up front were the difference between the two sides. Meath Hill V Navan O'Mahony's

0-10 to 3-10
Meath Hill started this year's championship with a defeat to Navan O'Mahonys. The Navan fielded a strong team many with senior experience including former Meath player Mark Ward. It was O'Mahonys who started the game the strongest and were denied twice in quick succession by Chris Yorke. It didn't take them long too long to find the net as a quick move up the field ended with a low shot into the bottom corner. Jason Yorke got Meath Hill off the mark with a strong run up the field capped off with a fine point from range. The Navan side then got their second goal with another free flowing move up the pitch ending up in the Meath Hill net.

The north Meath men started the second half stronger and slowly started to chip away at the lead thanks to points from Pierce McGrath and Mark Tully. Meath Hill owned the ball for much of the second half but failed to convert their dominance into scores. They did manage to get within 2 points of the lead after Chris Yorke converted a 45. But this was as close as it would get for the North Meath side as O'Mahony's tagged on scores in quick succession to add to their lead. Tommy Rooney ended the scoring for Meath hill firing over a late point before O'Mahonys finished the contest in the last minute with a goal after an attempt for a point fell nicely after it rebounded off the post.

Best for Meath Hill were James Mooney, Ian Malone, Pierce McGrath, Jason Yorke and Chris Yorke.

Meath Hill - Chris Yorke (0-1 45) Conor Marry, Jason Yorke (0-1), Mickey McCabe, Martin Tully, Damien Turley, Barry Kieran, Tommy Rooney(0-1), Keith Ginnity, James Mooney, Ryan Owens, Ian Malone, Shane McCabe, Mark Tully(0-3), Pierce McGrath(0-4). Subs: Michael Byrne for Mickey McCabe and Niall Yorke for Shane McCabe.
