St Vincents/Curraha 3-10
St Michaels 1-12

St Vincents/Curraha overcame a stiff challenge from St Michaels to secure two more league points in the division 4 under16 league at Curraha on Monday evening. In doing so they overcame a five point half time deficit, kicking 2-6 in the second half to secure the win.

The opening quarter proved very competitive with little between the sides. St Michaels were first off the mark with a well taken point before Leo Corry opened the St Vincents/Curraha's  account with a point from close range. Both sides then exchanged points with Jack O Connor on target for the home side. Midway throught the half St Michaels seemed to gain the upper hand hitting 1-2 without reply to put them into a commanding lead. St Vincents/Curraha responded well with Conor O Farrell, David Corry, and Danny Tuite to the fore. Jack O Connor raised a white flag for the homeside before Ian Battersby surged throught the centre to kick an inspirational point. This left the half time score 1-6 to 0-4 in favour of the north Meath lads.

The second half saw greater intensity from the combined side which yielded three points two from the reliable boot of Jack O Connor and another from the hardworking Nigel Hand. The relentless attaching continued by the home side with a long speculative effort by Jack O Connor finding its way into the visitors net to put the St Vincents/Curraha into the lead for the first time in the game. This provided the impetus that the home side needed and with another attack a good passing move was finished to the net by Leo Corry. St Vincents/Curraha were now in the driving seat. St Michaels responded in a desperate effort to stem the tide and hit over two good points in succession. This set the tone for a ding dong battle for to the finish. The home side finished strong though with two further points by Nigel Hand and one each from Jack O Connor and Diarmuid Moriarty. St Michaels added four points also to stay within touching distance. Jack O Connor however was to have the final say when he registered his second and St Vincents/Curraha's third goal to secure the win for the home side.

Credit must go to both sides for a very competitive, sporting and exciting game of football.
