Seneschalstown's Adam Carey

Seneschalstown 3-10
Na Fianna 0-09

Seneschalstown moved into pole position in Division 3 of the MFL after a ten point win over a previously unbeaten Na Fianna side.

Having lost by nine points to Saturday's visitors in the U-17 league last summer, Seneschalstown were keen to turn the tables on the south Meath side. The opening exchanges were tight and tense, with both sides trying to adjust to the difficult cross field breeze.

The hosts hit the first score through Eoin Finnegan. Na Fianna answered quickly but Seneschalstown remained ahead through scores from Daniel O'Reilly, Adam Carey, Robert Wogan (2), Cathal Finnegan and Eoin Finnegan. Na Fianna kept in touch throughout but Seneschalstown dealt them a major blow at the end of half. After finding space Dylan Doyle charged towards the visitor's goal before punching the ball off to Cathal Finnegan. Finnegan checked back inside before dispatching the ball to the left corner of the net. This left Seneschalstown with a five point interval lead, 1-7 to 0-5.

With scores not as frequent in the second half, Seneschalstown set about seeing the game, defensively not letting Na Fianna in for any clear cut goal scoring opportunities, while adding to their goal tally at the other end. The side in blue got their second goal when Cathal Finnegan turned provider for full forward David Gordon who excellently rounded the goalie and finishing low to the net. 'Flash' didn't have to wait too long for his second major, cleverly finishing at the near post to extend the advantage. Niall Hickey and Eoin Finnegan closed off the scoring as the hosts claimed the points. It was a tremendous effort from one to fifteen, as well as the substitutes, who all contributed to an excellent victory.

Seneschalstown Scorers:  David Gordon 2-00, Cathal Finnegan 1-01, Eoin Finnegan 0-03, Robert Wogan 0-02, Niall Hickey 0-01, Adam Carey 0-01, Daniel O'Reilly 0-01, Dylan Doyle 0-01

Meath U-14 Spring League Division 2 Round 3

Seneschalstown 6-14 Skryne 3-06

Seneschalstown's U-14 side picked up their second victory of the Division 2 League on Saturday afternoon when comfortably accounting for Skryne in Fr. Tully Park after a very impressive team performance.

Over the course of the game the home side were full value for their win as they overpowered the Skryne side, with the diamond of centre back Simon Rooney, midfielders Joseph Moore and Cathal Hickey and centre forward Jamie Kirwan always offering themselves for a pass and driving forward at every opportunity.

The Yellow Furze outfit got off to a blistering start as they notched a goal and two points inside the opening two minutes.  Sean Commons and Ross Mullen registered the first two points of the game before Moore rattled the back of the net after getting on the end of a Hickey pass.  Skryne then hit back with a couple of scores before Sean Commons tapped over a thirteen metre free.  Skryne then hit a goal and a point either side of a Commons goal.  The tit for tat nature of the scoring continued as a Mullen point was cancelled out by a pointed Skryne free.  Seneschalstown though suddenly turned on the after burners and in a magnificent five minute spell on the run in to half time they hit three goals and a point, the goals coming Daire Walsh, Liam Maguire and Kirwan before Commons finished the half off with a point from play.

The talented Commons then opened the second half scoring with a free before Kirwan and Hickey pointed either side of a Skryne goal.  Ross Mullen, who was a livewire presence throughout on the edge of the square then beat the goalkeeper for a major, a score which was quickly followed up by another Commons point after a well worked one two with Walsh.  Hickey then raised another white flag before Rooney surged forward from centre back to kick a monster point.

Seneschalstown were pulling away by now and Mullen put the ball over the crossbar after getting on the end of a move started by some wonderful defensive play from Josh Ryan.  The admirable battling spirit of the Skryne youngsters which was evident throughout once more came to the fore at this point as they continued to battle manfully scoring a goal and two points before Commons brought the scoring to a close with a well taken point.

Seneschalstown Scorers:  Sean Commons 1-07 (0-02 Frees), Ross Mullen 1-03, Jamie Kirwan 1-01, Joseph Moore 1-00, Daire Walsh 1-00, Liam Maguire 1-00, Cathal Hickey 0-02, Simon Rooney 0-01.
