AFL4: Kilmainhamwood win in Moylagh

March 30, 2015

Kilmainhamwood's Andy Farrelly

Moylagh 1-08
Kilmainhamwood 0-12

Kilmainhamwood made their second trip of the year over to Moylagh, with the same result achieved, a win for the 'Wood, but it was not as easy as their last visit as Kilmainhamwood ran out one point winners, on Sunday morning the 29th of March.

This was Kilmainhamwood's second game in the space of 24 hours as their B Team lost to O'Mahonys the Saturday evening previous. Kilmainhamwood were missing a few of their regular first team starters, this brought about the introduction of Ronald Owens and Peter Flood into the first team.

The first 20 minutes of the first half was evenly contested by both sides, trading point for point, with the 'Wood's first four scores coming from three Michael Shankey points from play and one for wing-forward Harry Corbally. Corbally's score was the last of the half for the 'Wood, but Moylagh pushed on and registered an unanswered 1-03 to go in at half time 1-05 to 0-04 in the lead.

A Black Card to Ronald Owens before half time brought about the introduction of Padraig Owens into the 'Wood attack, this change was influential to a fighting K-Wood side, along with moving Andy Farrelly into midfield, and the ever influential Michael Shankey along with Stephen Kiernan in the forwards allowed the 'Wood to come back in the second half and outscore Moylagh 0-08 to 0-03, five scores from Kiernan, two from Shankey and one from Padraig Owens. This comeback allowed the 'Wood run out one point winners and go into their championship match against Wolfe Tones full of confidence. Best for the 'Wood was Michael Shankey, Stephen Kiernan and Andy Farrelly.
