Naomh Ultain 2-10 - 1-09 Baile Átha Troim

St. Ultan's and Trim played out a very competitive B-League fixture in Seán Newman Páirc on Saturday in unsettled and rainy conditions.

Trim struck with the opening point before Stephen Quirke opened the Ultan's account with a goal shortly after. The home side then built on the goal with further points from Quirke and Conor Smyth. Trim struck back however with a goal of their own and tied the game up at 1-03 apiece. Given the conditions it was natural that several chances were missed by both sides as the ball skipped across the surface of the pitch, and St. Ultan's corner back Conor Rennicks fell victim to the surface half way through the first half when he suffered a hamstring injury, and was replaced by Martin Gorman. The Bohermeen/Martry side then picked up again, creating a couple of goal chances, one of which was well taken by Andrew Barry. St. Ultan's best move of the half ended with a long range free which Stephen Quirke carefully dispatched to leave six points in the game at half time in favour of the home team.

The second half would be a less comfortable affair however, as Trim gradually came back into the game. St. Ultan's introduced Jamie Coogan at the start of the second half, making his first appearance of the year. Jamie spent much of the first half warming up as Shane Dolan hurt himself in a series of vigorous challenges but played on, and this proved much to his advantage as he linked up with Stephen Quirke early on in the second half. Stephen then fed Cian Dolan who scored an excellent point from 35 yards in Ultan's best move of the day.  Trim were gaining the upper hand in the midfield battle however and throughout the half they tagged on points and gradually closed the game. A number of changes were made by the home side in response, with Daryl McLoughlin making his return alongside Thomas Fitzsimons, Niall Galligan and Donal Gavigan. Despite this however, Trim closed the gap to two points with just a few minutes remaining. There was then a break in play as full forward Robbie Daly suffered a nasty head injury. The home team managed to tag on a couple of late scores including a first ever St. Ultan's point for Donal Gavigan to see out the game 2-10 to 1-09.
