BFL3: Oldcastle goals hold off St. Michaels

March 21, 2015

Oldcastle's Alan McCann

Oldcastle 3-9
St Michaels 1-12

Oldcastle made sure to claim the advantage on home ground on Thursday evening.

Oldcastle started well gaining majority of the possession following the throw in, however the score sheet did not reflect this as the sides were even after ten minutes with three apiece. Jason scully was to the fore of these scores, adding two to his name while Ross Cadden added the third. The Oldcastle defence were dominating in this opening quarter with the full back line sweeping up and St.Michaels struggled to break through while the half backs were putting their opponents under pressure as they attacked. Oldcastle took the advantage after Philip Reilly netted the ball in the early stages of the second quarter of the game. Both Scully and Reilly added a point consecutively while Declan Hubble put his first score of the game in the back of the net. St.Michaels reduced the deficit by adding 1-2 in this quarter.  Oldcastle had the advantage of a goal heading into the second half which proved to be a vital score for this win.

St.Michaels were first off the mark after the break but Oldcastle fought back not allowing them to gain with Alan Mccann pointing from a Reilly free. Again the Oldcastle defence showed great displays while St. Michaels were trying to put them under pressure. St.Michaels added two of their own bringing the sides ever closer again. The introduction of sub CJ Healy worked well as he pointed to keep the lead for Oldcastle.  St.Michaels took the lead for the first time in the second half following another two points but this was short lived as Hubble saw the net for the second time. Mccann added another two to St.Michaels one to finish with three between the teams.

A great overall performance by Oldcastle on the night.
