MFL3: Oldcastle prevail against Killary Emmets

February 22, 2015

Oldcastle's Jason Scully

Oldcastle 3-18
Killary Emmets 3-8

A great team performance allowed Oldcastle claim their first two points of their Minor League Campaign.

While Killary Emmets were the first to score leading by 1,1 in the early minutes, an enthusiastic Oldcastle team were not fazed by this and prevailed from here on in. A super display of football by the Oldcastle team saw them scoring seven points both from play and from frees in the next ten minutes with Killary Emmets responding with just one point of their own. The Oldcastle defence showed great teamwork as they closed in on any attacking play and while sending the ball back up the pitch, the forwards converted with ease. A goal by Jason Scully in the closing minutes of the first half along with two more points for Oldcastle gave them an 8 point advantage heading into the second half.

The second half was just as high scoring with both teams attacking at any chance. Similar to the first half it was killary Emmets who got the scoring of the mark with a point following the throw in. Oldcastle, however, kept the lead by ensuring they scored from play. Killary Emmets claimed their second goal of the game to reduce the deficit however it was shortly followed by a goal from Conor Delaney to keep Oldcastle on top. Oldcastle were awarded a penalty in the final quarter of the game and C.J Healy placed the ball in the back of the net. Killary Emmets answered back with a goal of their own but it wasn't enough to bring the sides any closer as the ref blew up the game.

Best for Oldcastle were Jason Scully, Oran O'Reilly and C.J Healy.
