U15FL: Tones slay O'Mahony's

Gearoid O'Brien Wolfe Tones

Wolfe Tones 4-12
Navan O Mahonys 1-10

Wind assisted Wolfe Tones got the perfect start with a point from Saran O'Fionnagain followed by a goal from Caolan Ward in the opening minutes of this Division 2 game in Brews Hill.

However 4 unanswered points from the home team meant the teams were level after the first quarter. This was worrying for the Tones as although they had a strong breeze in their favour they were playing second fiddle in most exchanges. A Saran O Fionnagáin goal in the 17th minute lifted the Tones and after this score they began to get to grips with their opponents. The Tones hit a purple patch from the 23rd minute when they dominated the O'Mahonys kick out to add a further 5 points before the interval, 3 from Saran O'Fionnagáin, 1 each from Iarlaith O'Kelly Lyncn and Dan Foley to a solitary point from the Navan men. Tones led 2  06 to 0  05 at half time.

Facing the breeze in the 2nd half Tones expected a battle to contain a strong running O Mahony's side. However it was Tones who started strongest and although they dominated possession for the opening 10 minutes had only a point from Saran O'Fionnagain to show for it and hit 5 wides during that period. O'Mahony's added 4 points without reply to leave the score 2  06 to 0  09 after 17 minutes and it looked like Tones would rue all those missed chances. However a point each from Dan Foley and Caolan Ward steadied the Tones and when substitute Daniel Farrell finished to the O'Mahony's net in the 20th minute it seemed Wolfe Tones were on course for victory. However showing admirable spirit O'Mahony's added a goal of their own almost immediately to leave a scoreline of 3  09 to 1  10. O Mahoney's were unable to build on this score and it was Wolfe Tones who dominated the closing minutes. The prolific Saran O'Fionnagain added 1 02 to his tally for the day while Caolan Ward completed the Tones scores with a point.
