Na Fianna 1-15

Simonstown Gaels 2-9

Na Fianna made a bright start to this SFC quarter final played in Trim on Saturday evening.

They registered the first three points of the game before Simonstown's Padraig McKeever and Mark McCabe scored two goals in quick succession. Gaels captain Seán Tobin added a further point following good work from full forward Conor Sheridan, stretching their lead to four. Na Fianna enjoyed a spell of dominance after this however, and points by Dean Barrett, two from Conor Downey and a Shane Barrett free restored parity. The pendulum again swung back in the Navan side's favour with Seamus Kenny pointing after receiving an excellent pass from Andrew Kearney. Shane O'Rourke, McKeever and another Tobin point extended Simonstown's lead, but a 45 from Jamie Queeney and a Shane Barrett free left Na Fianna trailing by two at the interval on a scoreline of Simonstown 2-5, Na Fianna 0-9.

The second half started with two goal chances at either end. Shane Barrett blasted wide for Na Fianna whilst Conor Sheridan failed to register at the other end. Barrett scored a point to narrow Simonstown's lead to the minimum but Kearney cancelled that out, scoring after some good work from Tobin. Another Barrett free for Na Fianna and a Tobin placed ball for Simonstown followed before Dan Queeney again reduced Simonstown lead to one with 10 minutes to go.

An excellent dispossession by Seamus Kenny set halfback Colin Wickham free down the right and he swung over an impressive score to leave Simonstown two to the good. Na Fianna asserted in closing stages through a Jamie Queeney point, two from Barrett and a goal that decided this close encounter with five minutes to go. Jamie Queeney delivered a cross-field ball to Shane Barrett who offloaded to the on-running Conor Downey who finished forcefully to the roof of Ronan Duffy's net. Another Simonstown point followed from Kearney but it was too little too late for the Navan side. The game ended Simonstown 2-9, Na Fianna 1-15.
