JFCA: Goal downs 'Hill

August 25, 2014

Summerhill's Brian Rispin

JUNIOR A CHAMPIONSHIP
PRELIMINARY QUARTER-FINAL

Summerhill 1-10
Simonstown Gaels 2-10

The concession of two quick-fire goals in the second half undermined Summerhill's bid to reach the last eight of the Meath JFC as Simonstown prevailed in their preliminary quarter-final on Sunday evening.

Summerhill were 1-9 to 0-10 up in the final minutes before Simonstown scored two goals in quick succession. The men in blue and gold added a point after the double setback but were unable to get a goal to equalize as Simonstown successfully held out.

Despite having a lot of possession in the first half, Summerhill had only two points to show for their efforts and trailed by five at the break. Brian Rispin (free) and Declan Lyons were the two first half scorers.

The 'Hill were eager to claw back the deficit in the third quarter and Paddy McGrath set the comeback in motion with a strong forward run from the throw-in which resulted in a Gary McDonnell point.

McGrath was the creator of Summerhill's only goal. His big kick into the square was flicked to the back of the net by Rispin.

Conor Lyons shone at half-forward in the second half with four points from play.

Simonstown will now face Drumconrath in the quarter-final next Sunday in Castletown at 12pm.
