FL Div 2: Decent performance from Ratoath

July 21, 2014

Ratoath's Cian O'Brien
Ráth Tó 2-12 Kilmainham 0-9

Ratoath emerged 9 point winners with a decent performance in this league game played in Seán Eiffe Park last night. It was the home side who quickly got into their running and made by far the better start . Playing some good ,slick football and moving the ball well, Ratoath went into a 5 point lead after 15 minutes, helped by a goal from Conor Rooney and points from Cian O'Brien and Emmet Boyle. Kilmainham , though responded and exposed weaknesses in the Ratoath defence and took some excellent scores of their own. As a result only a point separated the sides at half time with Ratoath still ahead 1-6 to 0-8.

For the second half Fergal Power and his management team made some changes with Gareth Rooney and Emmet Boyle moving to the back line. This had the effect of shoring up the defence and Kilmainham enjoyed far less success than in the opening period. That said the game was still very much in the balance when with 15 minutes to go a sublime pass from Eoghan McMahon put through Conor Rooney for his second goal of the game. Though this put the result beyond doubt it must be said Kilmainham were gallant and continued to put it up to Fergal Power's charges right up to the final whistle. Best for Ratoath were Aidan Quigley,Cian O'brien,Gareth Rooney,Colm Nugent and Eoghan McMahon. Good news then for Ratoath GAA supporters and was further boosted by the return of Gavin Eiffe after 2 months out with a shoulder injury. It was not all good news though with Gavin Quigley being replaced having sustained a knee injury. Let's hope its not too serious as we wish him a speedy recovery.
