BFL5: Drums edged by Curraha

Curraha's Shane Keogh
Curraha 1-12
Drumconrath 2-7

Curraha gained some revenge for their recent A League loss to Drumconrath when gaining a 2 point victory in Drumconrath on Monday evening.

Sean Prendiville opened the scoring for Curraha and soon after David Dunne added to that. Drumconrath pressed on and equalized through Padraig McMahon and Tomas Conlon but again Curraha pressed and 2 further point gave them the lead again.

Points from McMahon and Daniel Myles levelled the game but 5 points in a row had the away side 0-9 to 0-4 up at the break.

Drums opened well in the second half as Gavin Finnegan pointed but 3 more points from Curraha had them 7 points up at the 3/4 stage. Drumconrath interdouced Michael Og O'Gallachoir at this stage and a brilliant point from him on 47 minutes led to a revival from Drumconrath as he seemed to rise the spirits of his team mates.

Derek Duff soon after had a goal chance scrambled away and David O'Halloran somehow managed to hit both post and crossbar from 3 metres as the ball rebounded to safety. Soon after Duff fielded well in the large square and was hauled down and Sean McMahon put the penalty away. On the next attack Curraha got a slightly controversial goal as Drums Goalkeeper Conor O'Halloran fielded well but appeared to be fouled and David Coyle forced the ball to the net. Both sides expected a free out but the goal stood and indeed was a major say as it turned out.

O'Halloran made a super save soon after which drew applause from both sides as he dived full length to save a great shot from Prendiville.

Kevin Dardis also looked like he would net for Drums but his strong drive rose up and over the bar for a point and while Niall Martin did find the net soon after the full time whistle sounded soon after.

In a game where everyone played their part Conor McCann, Conor Joyce, David Dunne, Darren Weldon and David Toner played exceptionally well for the winners.

Ollie McMahon had a fine game for Drumconrath while Keith McConnon, Conor Martin, John Lynch, Padraig McMahon, Sean McMahon who replaced the injured John Clarke early on and super sub O'Gallachoir had good outings for the Reds.
