FL4: Late Hill goal downs Drumconrath
May 21, 2012

The late Niall Tully in action for Meath Hill in this years championship against Kilbride at Seneschalstown
Meath Hill 1-8
Drumconrath 0-9
The two teams from the Parish of Drumconrath, Drumconrath and Meath Hill severed up an enthralling and entertaining encounter for the good attendance on a Sunny afternoon in Drumconrath. A late Martin Tully tap in goal decided the issue which was in doubt for the full 60 minutes as both sides gave their all.
Meath Hill got the ball rolling as in the 1st minute Tommie Rooney won a ball out near the sideline and worked his way in to fist over the bar. Drums had control for a time but crucially registered 4 wides before Sean Kane Cluxton like came forward to fire over a 45 on 9 minutes to level the scores.
After some very good interplay between Jamie Myles and Thomas Carolan Stephan Crosby struck a good point to give Drums the lead after 12 minutes and while Mark Tully levelled again Alan Byrne and Crosby with a fine point from long distance gave Drumconrath a 2 point lead.
Meath Hill pointed twice before half time to again tie the match as 1st Barry Kieran with an over head kick and a Mark Tully free had the sides level as they retired for a well earned half time break.
Jason Yorke struck a 45m kick straight between the posts as the ideal playing conditions continued but Drumconrath with two frees from Alan Byrne and Crosby pushed Drumconrath a point clear on 40 minutes. Crosby was having a great game in the middle of the park for Drumconrath and was getting good support from Oran Finnegan, Pakie Dune and Peter Tighe.
Byrne from play pushed the home side 2 points clear but Meath Hill where battling hard and when a lucky Ric-o-shay found Tommie Rooney out in front he did well to point on a rare Meath Hill attack at that stage.
Byrne pointed a well earned free as the game ebbed and flowed for both committed sides. Mark Tully from a free narrowed the gap but when Niall Martin was fouled with 54 minutes gone Crosby fired over and it looked as if Drums had done enough.
Not so said Meath Hill as Mark Tully fired over and while Drumconrath defended well the goal chance arrived and despite Sean Kane and Peter Tighe making fine block the ball ended up at Martin Tully's feet and he fired home.
Drumconrath had a few chances to get back level but with time running out they searched for goals chance as Kane ran the length of the field and his fisted effort from Christopher Tighes centre flashed wide and the Laurels rested on the Blue Cavan/Monaghan side of the Parish in a contest that will serve both sides well.
Stephan Crosby gave a fine display for Drumconrath as did Oran Finnegan, Pakie Dunne, Peter Tighe, Alan McEvoy and Alan Byrne, while the Hill can thank, Niall Tully, Jason Yorke, Mark Tully and the late goal getting Martin Tully for good displays.
