Rathkenny finally registered their first win with a strong second half performance in this A League Division 2 game played in Rathkenny.
The visitors opened the scoring on six minutes before Rathkenny settled with two Brian Lenehan and a point from Brian Meade. The visitors reduced the gap on the quarter hour mark, before finding the net a minute later to lead by two. The lead became three when they popped over another point with ten minutes of the half remaining. Brian Meade reduced the gap two minutes later before the visitors sent over their final first half score. Three minutes before the interval Jack Gore slotted to the net after a fine team move. There was still time for Owen Elliott to send over on the stroke of halftime to leave it 1-5 to 1-4 to the hosts.
St Michaels levelled matters within a minute of the restart. Rathkenny then hit a purple patch when scoring 1-5 without reply in the next eight minutes. Brian Lenehan pointed with a free before slotting home a penalty within a minute after Donal Curtis was upended in the large parallelogram. Further scores came from Owen Elliott, Lenehan again, Jack Gore and the hard working Derek Smith. St Michaels reduced the gap ten minutes into the second half before points from Richie Timmons and a sublime free from Lenehan extended the lead further. St Michaels got their final score with ten minutes remaining. Final scores from Owen Elliott and Donal Keogan wrapped up the points for the hosts.

Both sides were evenly matched in an entertaining and competitive first half with Rathkenny going in at the break one point ahead 1-5 to 1-4. Kevin Cassidy found the back of the net for St. Michaels on 16 minutes to put them 1-2 to 0-3 ahead, however Rathkenny cancelled it out 10 minutes later when they goaled to level the match for the first and only time. Ciaran Lynch and substitution Peter O'Connell were on target with 2 points apiece for St. Michaels who lost influential midfielder Brendan Ryan through injury in the latter stages of the first half.
Brian Meade took control of the midfield area for the home side in the second half resulting in the St. Michaels forwards being starved of quality ball which showed on the scoreboard as they registered just three second half points from Ciaran Lynch 0-2 and Kevin Cassidy 0-1. Rathkenny added their second goal from the penalty spot 4 minutes after the restart.
