Donaghmore Ashbourne's senior team suffered their first league defeat of the season at the hands of current county champions Summerhill on Sunday morning.

Andrew Tormey opened the scoring for Donaghmore Ashbourne with a 35 meter free on 2 minutes when Eoin Reilly was fouled. Summerhill replied with a point on 9 minutes.

The turning point in the game came on 12 minutes when an incident off the ball involved most of the players from both sides. When calm was restored referee Pat Clarke produced red cards for Cormac Mc Gill, Tony Morgan and the Summerhill midfielder. Despite the numerical disadvantage Donaghmore Ashbourne had a number of chances before Eoin Reilly pointed on 17 minutes with a left footed effort from 20 meters out. The home side were level on 20 minutes and they took the lead with a free on 23 minutes. Two late points on gave Summerhill a half time interval lead 0-05 to 0-02.

The sides traded scores early in the second half with Shane Melia finishing off a quick free move with a point from 20 meters on 34 minutes and Summerhill restoring their 3 point margin with a point from a counter attack on 36 minutes. Andrew Tormey pointed for Donaghmore Ashbourne on 42 minutes after a good ball from Shane Melia.
Summerhill extended their lead early in the final quarter with three unanswered points in consecutive minutes with two of the scores coming from bad passes in the Donaghmore Ashbourne defence. John Broderick did reply with a point on 50 minutes when he finished off a good team score.

At the other end Andy Colgan pull off a great point blank save on 53 minutes but was beaten a minute later when a high ball was fisted into the net. Summerhill's final score of the game came on 55 minutes with a free.

Donaghmore Ashbourne managed to put a bit of respectability on the score board with a Mattie Device goal on 60 minutes and an Andrew Tormey free in injury time.
