ACFL 2: Gaeils off to a winning start
February 19, 2012

Gaeil Colmcille's Keith Reilly
Gaeil Colmcille 2-13
Kilmainham 0-06
Gaeil Colmcille got off at winning start on Sunday afternoon in Grangegodden and began their div 2 campaign with a easy win over their near neighbours Kilmainham, a repeat of last year's Division 3 final.
The div 3 champions got off to a great start and had five points on the board in the first 15 minutes Seamus Mattimoe opened the scoring in the first minute and further points from Mattimoe, Keith Reilly, Seanie Curran, and Justie C Lynch, left them five clear.
Kilmainham only managed two points in the last quarter of the first half while further points from Danny McGovern, Martin Barrett, and Keith Reilly and a goal in the last minute of the half by half forward Stevie McManus left the Kells men leading by (1-09) to (0-02) at half time.
The Gaeils started the second half brightly, Justin Carry Lynch opened the scoring with a fantastic effort from forty yards out. Kilmainham tried very hard but found the Gaeils defence very difficult to break down. Good defending led by captain Deco Smith, Robbie Flanagan and half back Barry Smith, who came forward with every opportunity.
Kilmainham managed just four points for the remainder of the match while Gaeil Colmcille got further points from Keith Reilly, Stevie McManus, a goal from Seamus Mattimoe and a free from substitute Fionn Ferguson finished the match with the Gaeils having a comfortable (0-13) point victory.
