Drums win parish bragging rights

January 23, 2012

Drumconrath's Stephan Crosby
Drumconrath 1-7
Meath Hill 1-4

Drumconrath got the early year bragging rights when they just about got the better of their fellow parishioners Meath Hill in this Seamus Boyle FT semi-final.

In a typical January game mistakes where plentiful and indeed it took a full 30 minutes before a score from play arrived a Christoper Tighe point just on half time.

Meath Hill got the ball rolling with Jason Yorke pointing from a free and that set the tone as he and Drumconrath's Leighton Irwin shared four more points all from frees until Tighe leveled the game after quick thinking from Sean McMahon set him free as the side went in level 0-3 each at the break.

A strong third quarter from the visitors set them up for victory Irwin from play got the 1st second half point and Niall Martin found the net after good work work from Damien Glass and Stephan Crosby. Irwin hit a long range free to give Drums a five point lead after 45 minutes.

Meath Hill had their period of dominance and when Yorke fired home after a good run from Tommie Rooney the gap was down to two points. Jamie Myles raiding forward pointed but substitute Derek McMahon kept Meath Hill hopes alive with a good score from play. Meath Hill tried to find the net ahead but solid defending from Drumconrath denied them any clear chances. Drums broke and Crosby sealed the win when he pointed after been set up by Brendan Lyons and Eoin Martin.

Drums best where Oran Finnegan, Jamie Myles, John McDermott, Stephan Crosby while Sean McMahon, Chris Tighe and Leighton Irwin did well. Meath Hill looked to Niall Tully, Jason Yorke and Tommie Ronney did well for Meath Hill.
