Geraghty set to feature against Louth
January 14, 2012
Graham Geraghty is expected to make his first Pairc Tailteann appearance for Meath in four years in Sunday's O'Byrne Cup clash against Louth.
Royal County boss Seamus McEnaney has confirmed that the 39-year-old player/selector is in the squad for the re-run of the hugely controversial 2010 Leinster final and is likely to see action from the bench. Geraghty, who came out of retirement after three years in 2011, would almost certainly have featured against the Wee County in last summer's All-Ireland qualifier meeting but for an Achilles tendon injury he suffered in the wake of his short-lived comeback against Kildare in the Leinster championship.
"Graham Geraghty will be in the 26-man panel for this weekend." McEnaney said.
"Getting close to the league, he's going to need game time. Will he play this weekend? He's certainly in the hat."
It would appear that the Corduff man has an 'impact sub' role in mind for the 1999 All-Ireland winning captain this year.
"It's up to himself to play himself into the playing squad or play himself out of it," he added.
"I've always said it's a 20-man game nowadays. And I've no doubt that Graham will push himself to the limit to get into that 20-man team."
Having managed just three competitive wins in his first season with the Royals, McEnaney is desperate to get his side into a winning habit as early as possible this year.
"I've made no secret of it. From the very first game of the year going back to the (Fitzsimons) tournament we played in October, we want to win every single game this year. That's the approach we're taking."
