BFL 5: Dunsany end Drumconrath's hopes

August 30, 2010

Drumconrath's Peter Tighe
Dunsany 2-6
Drumconrath 2-5

Drumconrath saw their chances of a playoff to reach the B League Final slip away after a hotly disputed penalty given on 56 minutes seen Dunsany keep their 100% record and go on to meet Clann na nGael in the Final. Drumconrath needed a win to get a playoff with the Athboy men.

Drums playing with the breeze started well and two Terry Halpenny points along with points from Alan McEvoy and Paul McMahon had them 0-4 to 0-1 up. Two late Dunsany frees left only one point in it at the break and Drumconrath looked like they had a mountain to climb in the second half as the breeze stiffened.

They made a fair attempt to climb it and despite Dunsany hitting the first three points of the second half, substitute Conor Martin hit 1-1 and a further Sean McMahon goal had the home side 2-5 to 0-6 up with 10 minutes to go.

Straight after Martin's goal Dunsany netted one of their own and with Drums for the main part defending well, it seemed they might hold out but for that late penalty decision.

Drumconrath - David O'Halloran; Keith McConnon, Patrick Carolan, John Lynch; Peter Tighe, Oran Finnegan, Terry Halpenny (0-2); Sean McMahon (1-0), Alan McEvoy (0-1); Paul McMahon (0-1), Peter McEvoy, Gavin Finnegan; Eoin Martin, Alan Dunne, Mark Reilly. Sub Conor Martin (1-1) for Reilly.
