Skryne celebrate with the Jim Meade Perpetual Cup after defeating Summerhill in the Meath U14 7-a-side final at Pairc Tailteann
The second annual Meath U14 seven-a-side finals took place in Pairc Tailteann on Saturday with Skryne winning the The Jim Meade Perpetual Cup and St Cuthbert's victorious in the Derek Brady Shield competition.

With conditions almost perfect for football, except for an odd rain shower, eight clubs reached the finals after earlier regional qualifiers. The eight clubs were divided into two groups of four, with each side playing one another on a round robin basis. With the top two in each section going on to contest the "cup" final, third and fourth positions contested the "shield" final.

Nobber were the winners of Group A after winning all their matches, but scoring difference was needed to determine the other positions as all three teams won a game each. With Skryne having a better scoring difference, they finished second with St Peters/Paul's in third and Bru na Boinne ending in fourth. Group B was more straight forward as Simonstown topped the table with an unblemished record while Summerhill were second followed by Inny Gaels in third and St Cuthbert's in fourth.
The Cup semi-finals saw Simonstown play Skryne while Summerhill were up against Nobber. Amazingly both semi-finals went to a "point shoot-out" after both ended in a draw. Free kicks from the 20 metre line - from the hand or off the ground - were taken and Skryne and Summerhill proved the more accurate sides. In the final Skryne had a bit more in reserve than Summerhill and ran out deserving winners on a 14 point to 5 point scoreline having been 7 points to 1 ahead at half time. The shield semi finals pitted St Peters/Pauls against St Cuthberts and Bru na Boinne against Inny Gaels. It was the lads from Bohermeen and the Slane/St Marys combination that reached the decider. Having been level 6 points each at the interval , St Cuthberts finished strongly to capture the title on a 14 point to 7 point scoreline.

With goals and points having the same value, 2 points awarded for a free off the ground, and only two plays of the ball there were many close and exciting matches and teams were fairly evenly matched. After the finals the Jim Meade Cup was presented to Skryne captain Timmy Lennon by Peter O'Halloran on behalf of the Drumconrath club who donated the cup will the Derek Brady Shield was presented to St Cuthberts captain Paidin Boggins by Liam Brady, father of Derek . The shield was donated by St Cuthbert and was therefore fitting that perhaps they won the competition this year.

Meath Juvenile Chairman thanked all clubs for taking part and congratulated those eight that reached the finals. He also thanked County Chairman Barney Allen for the use of Pairc Tailteann and Super Valu for their continued sponsorship of juvenile football in Meath. Finally he thanked all referees, especially Ciaran Flynn and Patrick Neilis who officiated on the day, for all their help and support.
