August 23, 2010

St Michael's Tom Halpin
Junior C FC quarter final.

St. Michaels 4-9
St. Peters Dunboyne 1-6.

Played in Walterstown
Half time St. Michaels 1-3, St. Peters Dunboyne 0-3.

St. Michaels advance to the semi-final of the Junior C FC with this well deserved win over St. Peters Dunboyne in Walterstown on Sunday afternoon.

Sean Cassidy's converted free in the first minute set the winners on course, Jamie Farrelly added another point from play in the second minute but it was the in-rushing Michael Rogers fisted goal from a free from Sean Cassidy which was the difference between the teams at the break as St. Peters struggled to get on the scoreboard as the match was 17 minutes old before they registered their first point. Another converted free from Cassidy on the 29th minute left St. Michaels 1-3 to 0-3 up at the break.

The second half introduction of Gordon Ward and the switch of man of the match Thomas Halpin to midfield strengthened St. Michaels cause and a point from Sean Cassidy and a Ronan Farrell goal put 7 points between the sides but St. Peters replied with 1-2 to leave just two points between the sides after 40 minutes. Two goals in as many minutes midway through the second half from Ronan Farrell and Jamie Farrelly killed off the match as far as St. Peters were concerned as they managed only one more point in the 46 minute as Jamie Farrelly, Sean Cassidy 0-2 each, Bernard O'Brien 0-1 and Ronan Farrell 1-0 completed the scoring for St. Michaels who will now meet Donaghmore Ashbourne in the semi-final.
