Beaten finalists in this Division 3 competition last year, Boardsmill were eager to get off to a winning start in this opening round clash.

Drumree got off to better start. Took a 1-2 to 0-1 lead. Boardsmill slowly got into gear and Finn Ennis goaled from close range following an intital goal attempt from Anton Hoey which was saved. Jim Bird scored 2 frees to leave sides level at break 1-3 each.

It was all one way traffic in 2nd half as Boardsmill found their range much more often and a goal from Anton Hoey mid way through 2nd half opened up their lead further. A fortuitous Martin Conway goal with 10 minutes to go sealed a victory for the mill as their resolute defence held Drumree scoreless in the 2nd half.
