Newly promoted Ballinabrackey got their Division 2 league campaign off to a winning start with a hard earned two point victory over Walterstown in Boyne Park on Sunday.
Walterstown started the strongest and were two points up after 4mins.Ballinabrackey lost key midfielder Brian Lucey after two minutes with an ankle injury and was replaced by Mick Carroll. Ballinabrackey got on the scoreboard after 6mins with a point from Seamus Curry from a 45 and a minute later were level with a point from Mick Carroll.
Walterstown were a head again after 10 mins but on 14 mins the Bracks took the lead with a well taken goal from Kevin Glennon who was found with an excellent pass from Finbar Bannon. A pointed free from Seamus Curry and two points from Brendan Glennon saw the Bracks extend their lead to 5 points after 28 mins. Two late points saw Walterstown cut the lead to 3 at the break. As in the first half Walterstown started the second half the strongest but with some great defending by the Ballinabrackey backs were finding it hard to get scores.
The teams were level for the second time after 41mins 1-05 to 0-08 but the Bracks were ahead again after 45mins with a point from midfielder Finbar Bannon and were two up a minute later with a point from Mick Carroll. Walterstown pulled one back after 50 mins. But the Bracks had the final say with a point from Brendan Glennon to finish on the score of 1-08 to 0-09
